Hello world!

Here’s the official first post on the blog. Might as well be a self-introduction!

I was born in central California, though we moved to southern California shortly afterward so I really don’t remember much of it. We later moved to the bay area of California, then up to Washington for a few years, then back down to the bay area, then over to Illinois for almost all of my high school years. The main reason for all the moving was because of my dad’s job; the easiest way to describe it is that he was a project manager for a large oil company, and wherever the big projects were, the family went with him. My dad retired about eight years ago and my parents are living comfortably in the hills of Alpine, Utah.

After high school, I moved out to Utah myself to attend Brigham Young University. Once I got through my first year of school, I went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in southern Brazil for a period of two years. Easily once of the best experiences I’ve ever had and I hope to be able to do something like it again in the future.

When I came home in 2011, I went back to school for a few years, but then went into the workforce full-time so that I could eventually keep paying for my own education. During this time, I met my wife online in 2016, and we got married in October of 2017. Currently we live in Salt Lake City, Utah, though our plans may change depending on where future jobs and education may take us.

In my free time I usually enjoy playing video games (mostly Nintendo, though I do play some Xbox and Playstation games on occasion, as well as certain mobile games), collecting and watching movies and certain television shows, creating things with LEGO bricks, and writing – hence this blog. I do also like playing music on piano or saxophone, going to concerts, trying new places to eat, taking walks, the occasional road trip, seeing live theater, and much more. I’m usually willing to try most things once. (Mushrooms aren’t one of those things, though.)

This isn’t my first attempt at a blog, though I do hope to maintain this one with more frequency than previous attempts. As currently mentioned on the home page, I’ll occasionally put up posts that were from the previous blog that I feel are worth holding on to, and whenever a post goes up I’ll probably also mention something on a Facebook page that has been set up in conjunction with this as well. Creating an “online presence” seems like an important thing to do in this age, so while this blog won’t have a singular focus on subject matter, people will hopefully get to know me and my personality better throughout each post.

I’m currently in the middle of a 30-day film challenge, where once each day I choose a film based on a certain prompt and share some thoughts about it. Those will eventually be put here, though due to their size I may post them in groups of five or so. In any case, I’m looking forward to sharing my thoughts with the world once more!
