As I briefly mentioned in a previous post, romance is probably my least favorite genre out of all of the ones that currently exist. That’s not to say that there aren’t great romance movies that exist; the inverse is true as well, with some of my favorite genres having some total flops. But within romantic films, so many of them feel predictable or ridiculously over-the-top. For this movie, though, Stranger Than Fiction, I feel like it takes some turns that make it stick out a lot more for me.

Will Ferrell’s character, Harold, plays an ordinary man with an ordinary life. But when he starts noticing someone narrating over his life, describing each action throughout his day, he learns that he’s part of a larger story and has to figure out how to go about his ordinary life while not going crazy. He meets someone who is also part of the story (but she doesn’t know it), and romance blossoms. Little does he know that the story’s author has a lot more in store for him than he’d ever imagine.
