Well, after talking about the previous film, I’m glad I’ve got this one to lift my spirits back up a bit! Scott Pilgrim, the movie (as it was originally published as a graphic novel), turned ten years old in August. And with the way that it was filmed and directed, I feel like it’s going to hold up for many years to come.

Scott’s story starts off simply enough. He’s a young adult, becomes infatuated with a girl, and does his best to court her. However, she reveals that for whoever wants to date her, they must first defeat her seven evil exes. The rest of the movie plays out much like a video game does, with Scott leveling up and beating each boss to eventually win the girl by the end. The graphic novel is written much in the same way so it makes sense that the film took the same direction.
Some of the things I love about this one are the small details that get put in. The numbers of the exes show up right before a fight with them, all 1 through 7; background lights change to little hearts when Scott and Ramona move things forward in their relationship; real video game sound effects and music; so many things that one would miss on anyone’s first watch but enhance the whole experience nonetheless. They even made a game out of the movie, using the graphic novel’s art style!
