16. Film that is personal to me – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2

I don’t think Harry Potter needs much of an introduction or explanation. So to get to the point, here’s why this is personal to me: right when I got back from my mission in August 2011, the first film I saw after getting somewhat settled in was Deathly Hallows Part 1, which was already available for home release and had come out while I was gone. Then the very next day I went to see Part 2 in theaters because it was still showing, and I loved every minute of it.

This was the culmination of several years for the Harry Potter series, several books that enthralled me because of how well that story had been written. I had gone to some of those midnight release parties for the books, and later on for some of the movies as well. I dressed up as a wizard for more than one occasion. I eagerly talked with my friends about each one of the books and movies as they came out, bonding over this mutual fandom. The film adaptation of this saga, spanning over a decade of my life at that point, was finally finishing. While there were some deviations from the books along the way, all eight movies managed to tell a complete story and bring to life what so many millions of people had only imagined while reading the story of the Boy who Lived.
