I rather like Robert Downey Jr. and have liked him since his performance in Iron Man, as I mentioned in an earlier post. While not every film of his is a blockbuster (one can look at the recent Dolittle as an example – having come out in January, the current pandemic can’t be blamed too much for poor box office numbers), he’s come out with some really great movies in the last few years, and Sherlock Holmes is definitely one of them.

This adaptation of Sherlock is set in the original era from the short stories – unlike the modern BBC series, set in the modern day (also a great watch when you have the time). RDJ plays against Jude Law’s portrayal of Watson, and they compliment each other remarkably well. The story has a few twists, ending on a high note that leads into the sequel, though watching this alone is still a great time. And we get to see a Sherlock that actually gets into fights every so often! The use of slow-motion to show how he can plan out his moves put a unique spin on the beloved character, and again RDJ seems to fit perfectly in the role.
