27. Film that is visually striking – Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Even though this movie is fairly new compared to others on my list, I’d easily put it in my top ten favorites of all time. Sure, it falls into the same genre as a lot of others from the last couple decades – superhero origin story – but it is, without exaggeration, masterfully done. For new and returning fans of the Spider-Man franchise, it quickly helps you get familiar with what’s going on and who our main players are. And it’s filled with honest-to-goodness heart throughout it, earning the viewer’s attention and engagement with its story, not just flashy action sequences (though some of the fights are well executed too).

And what makes this superhero story stand out is that it’s actually animated and framed like a comic book. There were some critics of the style at first, and even I took a few minutes to get adjusted to it, but not long after that I was immersed in the story of Miles Morales. Other movies have tried to accomplish the comic book look, and many have failed, but Into the Spider-Verse truly captures that feeling and will make you want to watch it again and again to catch every small detail.
