To round off the month of movies, I’m going with a fairly recent whodunit that I think received pretty universal praise. Rian Johnson got a lot of unnecessary flak for the way he directed The Last Jedi (that’s one that I’ve written a full review of before on my last blog and will eventually put up on this new one), but this time around he’s unarguably knocked it out of the park.

Daniel Craig plays Benoit Blanc, the “last of the gentlemen sleuths”, and is hired to investigate the death of Harlan Thrombey. And while one may go into this thinking that we’ll learn who did it right at the end, we actually find out fairly early on – within the first half of the movie. But there’s more to the death than meets the eye, and Johnson does a fantastic job of subverting expectations all along the way. I won’t talk too much more about the plot so as to avoid spoilers for this one; not only because it’s fairly recent, but also because it’s worth seeing Blanc’s detective work in action as he gets to the bottom of the whole situation.
And there are so many details that are easily missable the first time through! From certain lines that are said by characters, to how flashback scenes are portrayed, from the beginning right up until the last shot of the movie. It’s evident that this movie had tons of professional passion put into it and I love how things end up for our protagonists.
