7. Film that I’ll never get tired of – The Princess Bride

What can I say about this film that hasn’t already been said? This one is a pretty beloved movie for multiple generations, and the book it’s based off of is an enjoyable read as well (though I didn’t read it myself, one of my high school teachers read it to us). From the opening introduction by the grandpa, our narrator, all the way to the end with the kiss that “left them all behind,” the movie gives us a wonderful tale that holds up incredibly well to this day.

I can offer some unique personal trivia on this one! A while back there was a convention in Salt Lake City that my wife and I attended, and the actors who portrayed Westley, Humperdinck, and Vizzini were all there as guests. Some people bring pictures for celebrities to sign when they come to events like this, but I found a Princess Bride coloring book and had all three of them sign on pages they were featured on. When it came time to get Wallace Shawn’s (Vizzini) signature, a handler made sure to tell people waiting to not bring up the “Inconceivable!” line. Seems like it’s been a little overdone in the last 30 years or so, so while he was happy to talk about the film he preferred to focus on other roles he’d had. He and the other two actors were incredibly nice to talk to though, and I’ll always cherish opportunities like that.
