Recently I tried something I’d never done before. A couple weeks ago I recorded an episode of a podcast with my long-time friend James. He started putting episodes out for “The Nerd Nexus” last month and it was a blast just shooting the breeze and talking about a few of the topics that have been interesting to us over the years.
To touch on a couple things we didn’t get to during the episode: James is literally one of my oldest friends at this point. We met back in 2009 in an airport when we were both part of a group of missionaries for our church, on our way to Brazil. While some of the other missionaries in that group eventually went to different parts of the country, we all went to São Paulo first for a couple months, and then we went to our respective areas. James and I were both part of the group that went to Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state in Brazil, where we served for a couple years teaching others about our faith and helping in whatever ways we could.
After the mission I kept in contact here and there with some of my mission colleagues, eventually reconnecting James when he moved to Utah. And not too long after that he and his wife are now friends with me and my wife, having met up at work functions and the occasional game night. My wife even got to work at the same company as him before he recently changed jobs, so I can confidently say he’s been a pretty close friend for some time now.
A few weeks ago, James mentioned that he wanted to start up this podcast and we finally had the chance to meet up at his place to record my episode, so for wherever you prefer to listen it’s available now. He’s already got a few other episodes out by himself and some with other guests, so if you’re into anything nerdy at all I’d highly recommend it – in addition to the subjects he and I talked about, there’s a plethora of topics that have been covered by others and I’m sure even more that could be talked about down the road. I had a great time and hope that’s evident from how I sounded – it’s always a unique experience to listen to yourself talk – and I hope that I can appear again on the podcast soon. I’ve definitely got more I can go on and on and on and on about.
